If you are not sure if a book is on your reading level, turn to a page with no pictures and begin reading.
For each word you miss, put down one finger on one hand.
At the end of the page if you have a fist (meaning all 5 fingers are down) the book is to hard for you. You should select another one.
Some books have the reading level on the spine label. If it is an Accelerated Reader or Reading Counts Book check the label. RL stands for reading level. Examples: RL 3.5 means third grade fifth month. RL 5.0 means beginning of fifth grade.
If there is a summary on the back of the book read the summary. Read over the book jacket to see if you might be interested in reading the book.
If you need help ask the librarian or your teacher.
Find out what your friends are reading and ask if they enjoyed their book.
